This test (which we commonly call a "BUN test") checks the health of your kidneys. It measures the level of urea in your blood. Urea is a waste product that healthy kidneys filter out of your blood and put into your urine. If your kidneys aren't working well, the level of urea in your blood can be higher than normal.
